This workshop equips the students with basic tools to produce an original song with at least two contrasting sections, utilizing drum programming, groove writing, sampling and basic mixing techniques. This workshop also features step-by-step analysis of song sessions of the Gen-Z artists who have found industry success through home-recorded songs, such as Billie Eilish and FINNEAS.
UNLOCK YOUR CREATIVITY WITH SONGWRITING AND LYRIC WRITING
This workshop is an introduction to basic songwriting and lyric writing techniques. Students will develop a sense of song forms, motivic development, harmony and rhythm. Moreover, the students will also be introduced to lyric writing concepts such as phrasing and rhyming.
SONG PRODUCTION WITH GLOBAL MUSIC CULTURES (CASE STUDIES: BOSSA NOVA, CUMBIA, REBETIKO AND FLAMENCO
This workshop focuses on producing songs inspired from various Latin American and Mediterranean music styles. As most music production lectures overlook these styles and focus on electronic or pop music, this workshop brings a new perspective to music production through the rediscovery of music production for global music cultures in the 21st century. The workshop includes strategies for groove writing, harmonic progressions, rhythmic patterns, and melody writing and arranging through various cases in styles such as Bossa Nova, Cumbia, Rebetiko and Flamenco. The workshop also introduces ideas to combine these styles with modern music production styles such as Lo-Fi and analyses case studies of artists who have combined these genres with modern styles, such as Rosalia.
DATA ANALYSIS, BRANDING AND PLAYLISTING STRATEGIES FOR INDEPENDENT ARTISTS
In this workshop, artists will learn about strategies to combine their brand with streaming platform data to develop compelling new revenue streams through playlists and social media strategy. Through examples of various artists, we will be going over the artist cases that reached success through the successful integration of branding and data analysis in the contemporary global music industy.
